Externships for Pre-Veterinary Students
|
College students who are considering veterinary medicine as a career need to shadow both large and small animal veterinarians in order to apply to veterinary school. College students interested in veterinary careers are invited to participate in a pre-veterinary externship during which they shadow GVEC veterinarians. We have limited opportunities for students residing in the Rochester area during the school year. All pre-veterinary externs must have completed at least one year in a college program.
Summer externships are also available for exceptionally motivated students who are able to committ to at least 80 hours within the months of May to August. Summer externships will be limited to four students chosen from applications to the program. We cannot provide housing, so students must reside in the Rochester, NY area.
Note: We cannot honor requests to write letters of recommendation for students who have spent less than 80 hours with our practice. Sorry, we are not able to take students under 18 years of age.
If you are interested in learning more about our pre-veterinary externship, please call the clinic to request a student information packet and application. You can also e-mail Laura Johnson, our student liason, directly at studentinfo-gvec@rochester.rr.com . Please give us your current mailing and e-mail addresses.
